10 Macedonian books to be translated into Spanish, Serbian and Bulgarian

Ten books by Macedonian writers will be translated into Spanish, Serbian and Bulgarian. This is the latest outcome of a call on financing translations of outstanding Macedonian literary works by foreign publishing companies.

The call for foreign publishing companies is part of a program run by the government and the Ministry of Culture. Its latest results were announced Wednesday at a news conference by Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska.

Spanish, Serbian, Bulgarian publishing houses will translate and publish works by poets Ljubomir Gruevski, Risto Lazarov and Ante Popovski, novelists Frosina Parmakovska, Vladimir Pavlevski, Davor Stojanovski, Vlado Dimovski, Dusko Rodev and Lidija Dimkovska.

17 applications from Serbia, Spain, Bulgaria and Italy have been sent at this year’s call for foreign publishers since being opened in January, according to Minister Kanceska-Milevska. “I’m confident that the number of translations of the most outstanding Macedonian literary works will keep growing in the future,” she said adding the project would once again “showcase the enormous creative potential and richness of Macedonian literature.”
