2016 Pride Photo Award exhibition opens in Skopje

Pride Photo Award exhibition with all the 2016 winners will open Tuesday evening in the National Gallery of Macedonia – Mala Stanica organised by the embassies of Netherlands in Skopje, Tirana and Pristina.

Pride Photo Award is an annual international photo contest focusing on sexual diversity and gender identity. Every year photographers from all over the world share their most imaginative, challenging and non-stereotypical take on gender and sexuality. An international jury of experts selects the very best work from which we make an exhibition for the world to see.

In 2016 a good 3,600 entries were submitted by 398 photographers with 70 different nationalities. This exhibition was previously showcased in Amsterdam, Bologna, Jakarta, Hanoi and San Francisco.

Pride Photo Award contributes to a fairer and more inclusive world by making sexual and gender diversity visible and creating awareness of the ‘other’. We believe that all people have the right to freely express their identity whoever and wherever they are. No one should every have to fear for their safety or suffer discrimination on the basis of who they are. Moreover, it is our strong conviction that diversity should be celebrated and regarded as an asset rather than as a threat, to any society, the Embassy of Netherlands in Skopje said in a press release.

Dutch Ambassador to Macedonia Wouter Plomp will open the exhibition which will run until Dec. 17.
