“We express our support for EU Ambassador Geer in his stance on the European future, anticipating his engagement in summoning his counterpart in Sofia for discussions with the Bulgarian government. This effort is aimed at paving the way for Macedonia and its citizens to join the European Union, free from dictates, ultimatums, and hegemonic demands,” stated Hristijan Mickoski, the leader of VMRO-DPMNE, on Saturday.

Responding to a journalist’s inquiry about his interpretation of the EU Ambassador’s statement, Mickoski expressed concern about the apparent lack of attention to issues such as corruption, crime, and humiliations related to passport issuances for Macedonian citizens. He highlighted the ongoing challenges and controversies, including incidents at M-NAV, and emphasized the need for addressing these real problems facing Macedonian citizens.

Regarding the party’s presidential candidate and the possibility of supporting a non-partisan candidate, Mickoski explained that through internal party polls, scheduled for the second half of February, they will determine the candidate with the best chances.

“VMRO-DPMNE is a democratic party, allowing anyone meeting the criteria to participate in the internal party process. The final decision will be made at a convention, where delegates will choose the candidate representing VMRO-DPMNE,” Mickoski stated.

In response to questions about potential alliances, Mickoski noted signals from numerous parties currently in power or previously in power, indicating their interest in joining VMRO-DPMNE.

Mickoski criticized the government for not establishing fair election conditions, citing thousands of active job postings in public administration ahead of the elections. He also pointed out the vacant seat in the State Election Commission, belonging to the Albanian opposition, which the government has yet to fill. Despite acknowledging flaws in the electoral process, Mickoski emphasized the need to endure until the official start of the campaign and then demand accountability.
