Ad for new SEC members released

An ad for new members of the State Election Commission (SEC) in the next six months has been released in daily newspapers on Tuesday.

This will be a temporary composition of SEC, because new electoral legislation is expected in the fall, also encompassing the Commission structure.

The ad, which is open for eight days, refers to the election of president, deputy-president and five members of SEC.

The opposition is set to nominate the president and two members, while the ruling parties will delegate the deputy-president and three members.

The Parliament elects the SEC members by a two-thirds majority.

All SEC members, except for the BESA representative, resigned from their posts back in December 2017 after it was revealed they had awarded themselves considerable sums as bonuses for their activities in recent election cycles and following an online public petition demanding their resignations.
