Demir Kapija-Smokvica motorway section to open in April

Documentation is being completed for the construction of motorway section Demir Kapija-Smokvica, which opening is expected in mid-April, the Government has announced.

The Public Roads Enterprise says technical controls have been carried out and the required oversight documents are to be submitted over the course of March.

The Government reviewed late Tuesday the report over the motorway’s construction, saying the section would be put into use on April 15.

The construction of the 28km-long motorway section was launched in September 2012. It cost EUR 218 million, provided through a European Commission grant, a loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), as well as the national budget.

The motorway section includes two tunnels, six bridges, six underpasses and two overpasses.
