Dimitrov: Accentuating exclusive positions diminishes the chances to resolve name dispute

Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov told Tuesday that if exclusive positions in the public are accentuated, the chances of the process of resolving the name dispute between Macedonia and Greece are diminished, adding that it is more useful to discuss about goals rather than positions.

Answering journalist question related to Greece’s position that change of Macedonia’s Constitution is needed in order to reach a solution to the name issue, Dimitrov told that it will be more useful to discuss about the goals i.e. what Greece wants to achieve in this process and also what are the goals of Macedonia.

“I believe that in this way we will have more chance to really overcome differences and to reach a compromise that will be accepted by the citizens of two sides,” Dimitrov said at Tuesday’s joint press conference with his Croatian counterpart Marija Pejcinovic Buric.

He said that it would be desirable in the entire process if Macedonia and Greece to compete with each other on who will show a more European approach in this bilateral dispute in terms of understanding the other side and incorporating European values and principles in the process.
