Fruit acids help refine skin

Acids found in apples and citrus fruit, as well as yoghurt and wine, promote skin cell turnover and moisture retention, helping the skin look more radiant.

None of the myriad lotions and masks on the market can erase wrinkles. But those containing alpha and beta hydroxy acids can refine the complexion.

These chemical exfoliants brighten the skin by fighting hyperpigmentation, age spots, blemishes, and scars, by loosening skin cells that trap bacteria and sebum.

Winter is the right time for using alpha and beta hydroxy acids, as they can make the skin sensitive to sunlight. Applying them around the eyes and lips should be avoided, though, since they can irritate those areas.
