VMRO-DPMNE will elect a new leader at an extraordinary congress set for December 22-23 after Nikola Gruevski resigned at a meeting of the party’s central committee on Sunday.

“The congress, which will take place in Valanodovo, brings together 544 delegates, who are to choose the next party leader”, said VMRO-DPMNE secretary-general Hristijan Mickovski.

According to party sources, Hristijan Mickovski, MPs and former foreign ministers Nikola Popovski and Antonio Milososki, as well as MP and party executive board member Ilija Dimovski are seen as the leading candidates for the VMRO-DPMNE top position.
