Household heating is the largest source of air pollution, shows a report on the air quality drafted by the inter-ministerial group comprised of 17 state institutions and environmental groups.

The Government adopted the report at Tuesday’s session and its recommendations and measures are to be presented in the coming period.

Measures to cut pollution levels include a campaign to bring households that have opted out of the Skopje heating system back to the grid, law changes towards obliging each building contractor to put forward a heating plan, as well subsidies for new types of heating.

On the long-term, coal is to be banned as resource for household heating by 2021.
