MOC-OA asks BOC to be its mother-church

The Holy Synod of the Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archbishopric (MOC-OA) has asked in a letter the Bulgarian Orthodox Church (BOC) to be its mother church if it recognizes the MOC-OA autocephaly, MIA reports.

The letter was sent after MOC-OA’s Synod session on November 9.

“The Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archbishopric will recognize the Bulgarian Orthodox Church-Bulgarian Patriarchy as its Mother Church, which on its part recognizes and promotes MOC-OA’s autocephaly before the Ecumenical Patriarchate and other churches”, reads the letter.

The MOC-OA Synod urges the BOC to establish a “Eucharistic unity with the restored Ohrid Archbishopric in the image of the Macedonian Orthodox Church”.

It adds that a possible church signing would create unity between the two episcopates, representing the foundation for “Eucharistic unity with episcopates of other Orthodox churches”.

MOC-OA hopes that the BOC Holy Synod would accept their proposals “for the well-being of all churches”.
