The Skopje-based Ss. Cyril and Methodius University received Friday a donation of books from the Moscow Orthodox Theological Academy that are set to be handed over to the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Skopje. 85 volumes of books were donated, including a set of books of the Orthodox Encyclopaedia and the History of the Russian Church.

The rector of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Velimir Stojkovski said the gift of the Moscow Academy was “a magnificent work of art that has no equals amongst the literary works from around the world.”

A memorial plaque was also unveiled today at the Skopje University expressing gratitude to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Skopje for its contribution to the development of education and science.

“The Skopje University has signed over 120 agreements for international cooperation with top universities in Europe and the rest of the world… The cooperation means friendship, respect and appreciation. The universities in Russia are of that kind, starting with its largest one, the Lomonosov University, and the Moscow Theological Academy, with which the Skopje University has been fostering intensive cooperation in the past few years. This cooperation would have been impossible without the selfless efforts and sincere support from the Russian Ambassador Oleg Shcherbak, his associates and the entire embassy staff,” Stojkovski noted.

“The most important cooperation between the Republic of Macedonia and the Russian Federation is in culture and education, where one can see the true closeness between the people of Macedonia and Russia. Today’s book donation is an example of excellent cooperation between the two institutions,” stated Ambassador Shcherbak thanking the Skopje University for its support with educational institutions in Russia.
