Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje gets library and research center

A library and a research center were inaugurated Wednesday at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) in Skopje. The library boasts a collection of 5,200 books, over 2,000 magazines as well as monographs of international and domestic artists thus making its the largest data base for modern and contemporary art in Macedonia.

The library and the research center were launched today by Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska and MCA’s director Laze Tripkov. The museum’s library is a donation by the company Eurolink Insurance, which has covered the costs for interior design.

According to Kanceska-Milevska, the primary role of the library and the research center is to educate children, young people and researches who study modern and contemporary art.

“Agreements have been made with schools and faculties. The research center is open for them and all researchers and scholars will be able to upgrade their knowledge by using the Museum’s large data base,” she said mentioning that the Museum of Contemporary Art had been renovated with funds provided by the Ministry of Culture.

The MCA owns more than 3,000 works of art by Macedonian and international artists.

The library features all the publications, monographs, books and magazines published by the MCA.

“Some of these books have not been available for a long time. After securing support from the Ministry of Culture, we have decided to make it one of our top priorities aside from organizing exhibitions – to offer reference publications and to put them at disposal for art students, critics and all those who are simply art lovers,” noted MCA’s director Tripkov.
