MWA to present annual awards


The Macedonian Writers’ Association (MWA) will present the 2017 literary awards on Tuesday, its 71. establishment anniversary.

The Monastery of Fuenterrabia by Jagoda Mihajlovska-Georgieva won the Stale Popov award for best novel, while Risto Vasilevski the Aco Shopov award for best book of poems.

The Dimitar Mitrev award for best collection of essays went to Angelina Banovic-Markovska. Vasil Mukaetov won the Vanco Nikoleski award for best children’s book and Ljerka Tot Naumova is recognized for her book of poems written in Croatian, for which she won the Literary Bridge award for best work published in a language of the minorities in Macedonia.

MWA was established on 13 February 1947 by Dimitar Mitrev, Slavko Janevski, Aco Sopov, Vlado Maleski, Risto Krle, Vasil Iljoski, Ivan Tocko and Blaze Koneski, who was elected its first president.
