NBRM annual research conference resumes in Ohrid


The second day of the 7th Annual Research Conference titled “Around a Decade After the Crisis: Heading to the New Global Cycle and Monetary Policy Normalization” organised by the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia (NBRM) held in Ohrid will begin with keynote lecture of the Governor of the National Bank of Belgium Jan Smets.

Friday’s continuation of conference will include two panels. The first panel, which will be led by Governors of central banks of Macedonia, Belgium, Croatia, Albania and Kosovo, will focus on new global cycle and monetary policy normalization.

Bas Bakker, who is representative of IMF Regional Office for Central and Eastern Europe, Director of the Joint Vienna Institute Thomas Richardson and Vice Governor of Bank of Slovenia Jozef Bradezko will address the second panel on topic “Capital flows – prospects and risks for the region.”

As announced, NBRM Governor Dimitar Bogov and his colleagues from Belgium and Croatia, Jan Smets and Boris Vujicic, Peter Sanfey of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Bas Bakker from IMF as well as Thomas Richardson from Joint Vienna Institute will give statements Friday afternoon.

The representatives of several central banks from the region, the EU and beyond, the European Central Bank, financial institutions, state institutions, as well as from prominent world universities and international organisations attend the conference.

The event is an opportunity to exchange experience with the representatives of the wider international community on key issues in the field of macroeconomics, monetary policy and financial stability, not only for the representatives of the NBRM, but for domestic banks and other financial institutions, as well.

The conference is traditionally held to mark the monetary independence of the Republic of Macedonia.
