Number of individuals trading on Macedonia’s Stock Exchange on the rise


The number of physical entities trading shares on the Macedonian Stock Exchange is on the rise. Stock market statistics show there is an increase in the participation of individuals in the purchasing side of turnover.

A positive trend has been also recorded in the number of foreign buyers as regards the number of foreign salesmen.

“There’s a rise in foreign buyers and a drop in foreign salesmen. Considering purchasing side, foreigners participated at nearly 10%, this year it is close to 14%. In 2016, 24% of foreign salesmen was recorded, now it is estimated at 21.5%. Thus, there is a favorable trend of a smaller net outflow from the domestic towards foreign markets,” Ivan Sterijev, Head of the Macedonian Stock Exchange, said Tuesday.

The overall turnover of the Macedonian Stock Exchange until November is close to MKD 4.4 billion with an increase in turnover in every aspect. Average daily turnover in classic trading is MKD 11.9 million, which is an increase of approximately 27 per cent. There is an increase also in trading with shares by nearly 55% with the highest increase in block transactions of 21.8 per cent.

In terms of structure of turnover, 58.9 per cent is trading with listed companies with only 1.4% of trading is conducted with non-listed companies.

The total number of securities traded in the past 11 months of 2017 is 132 – the same as last year.

The Macedonian Stock Exchange says it has positive expectations for 2018.
