Over 2,600 cases of measles registered in Serbia


A total of 2,607 cases of measles have been reported across Serbia in the period between October 2017 and February 2018, the country’s Public Health Institute has said.

The youngest patient was 15 days old with the oldest being 65.

A majority of those being treated were under the age of 5 and over 30. Most patients, 94%, weren’t vaccinated or had an ‘unknown’ vaccination status.

Of those infected, 33% have been hospitalized or are being treated.

Severe complications from the disease have resulted in brain inflammation of an individual while 292 people were treated for lung inflammation.
