Macedonia, UNFPA sign agreement on improvement of maternal and newborn health (video)


Health Minister Venko Filipce and Doina Bologa, Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Office in Skopje signed Thursday agreement that will provide joint implementation of measures for improvement of maternal and newborn health and reduction of their mortality ratio.

The agreement foresees MKD 5 million, of which half of the funds are provided by the government while other half by UNFPA.

Filipce following agreement signing ceremony said that the agreement foresees implementation of several activities by year-end as training for the professional staff in two maternity hospitals that cover the highest number of births, application of practices in line with the latest standards of the WHO for the care of mothers and newborns, training from experienced WHO consultants during application of practices for improvement of the maternal and newborn health, finalization and implementation of standards for gynecology and obstetrics in certain hospitals.

The agreement is in line with the 2016-2020 UNFPA Programme for Macedonia and with one of the priority national issues.
