Papadakis: Greece is not interested in changing the name, but the identity

“I would not agree that there is a difference or different statements by Greece, even from the beginning of this absurd dispute over the name of Macedonia. I have said several times that Greece’s position is very simple – Greece is not interested in solving the name dispute because it does not care what Macedonia will be called. Greece’s problem is only the identity of the Macedonian people and it has been constantly seen in the last 25 years,” Papadakis told Kanal 5.

He emphasized that the 25- year old name dispute cannot be resolved in three months.

“On the other hand, Greece with such statements and hypocrisy has repeatedly expressed that it does not want to be resolved and Greece’s goal is getting the time for Macedonia to stay outside the EU and outside NATO, and second and foremost, if we reach a kind of solution it to be the new identity of the Macedonian people. It should be clear to everyone,” Papadakis pointed out.

As regards the announced meeting of Zoran Zaev and Alexis Tsipras which is to be held in Davos, he says that it is likely to be a cosmetic meeting that will not solve essential things.
