Police releases details about Dilaver Bojku’s murder

Ohrid police disclosed additional details about the mafia style killing of Dilaver Bojku – Leku (55), a notorious mafia boss from Struga. Bojku was killed in Aqua Blue, a lakeside beach club he managed in Struga at 16:30h on Monday.

He was killed by a still unknown male attacker, who shot him through the head with one bullet from close range. The attacker then fled the club. Two persons pursued him, and the attacker fired two more bullets to ward them off, before fleeing the scene. Bojku was brought to the Struga General Hospital, where doctors failed to reanimate him.

Bojku was most frequently associated with organizing prostitution rings in his native village of Veleshta, near Struga, where he ran several night clubs and hotels. He was suspected of forcing women from Ukraine, Romania and Moldova into sex trafficking, and was charged in five counts of organized prostitution. He fled an attempted arrest in 2003, and was suspected of trying to get away to Brazil, and his escape was reported in the New York Times. He was eventually re-arrested in Montenegro and extradited to Macedonia under heavy guard.

Before his murder, Bojku was involved in a heated public argument with Struga Mayor Zijadin Sella. Bojku accused Sella of trying to destroy his beach bar and threatening to tear it down because he lacked a permit. Bojku insisted that he invested 400.000 EUR in the bar, hauling sand and clearing out debris. His argument with Sella was also attributed, in some of the media outlets, to blood feud between the two families.
