Police thwart drug trafficking attempt near Medzitlija border crossing

Two Albanian nationals have been detained and charged with illegal transport of marijuana from Albania via Macedonia to Greece.

The two persons, aged 45 and 33, alongside a third unknown individual, illegally obtained the marijuana, packed it and left from Albania, through Macedonia, with Greece being the final destination, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.

They were spotted early Sunday by police officers from the Medzitlija border crossing near Bitola. After a brief chase, two persons were caught, while the third fled.

Two bags found in their possession included 38,1kg of marijuana, along with about 200g of hashish and 350ml of hashish resin.
