President Gjorge Ivanov had a meeting Saturday with participants of the Advance Research Workshop, dubbed ‘Defense against Terrorism, Enhancing Resilience of Democratic Institutions and Rule of Law’.

The meeting was attended by eminent professors, security experts from Macedonia, US, Britain, France, Italy, Belgium, Serbia and Greece, the President’s Office said in a press release.

‘What has been happening today in Syria seems to point out as if the time of peace is an exception, while conflicts and wars are a state of normalcy,’ Ivanov said to his guests.

He also mentioned the 2015 migrant/refugee crisis, which confirmed the need of countries to work together in dealing with challenges.

The President called on NATO to adjust to the current challenges, in particular the cyber crime.

The Advance Research Workshop on ‘Defense against Terrorism, Enhancing Resilience of Democratic Institutions and Rule of Law’, took place on 11-14 April in Skopje under the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme.

SPS promotes dialogue and practical cooperation between NATO member states and partner nations based on scientific research, technological innovation and knowledge exchange. It offers funding, expert advice and support to tailor-made, security-relevant activities that respond to NATO’s strategic objectives.
