President Ivanov supports international campaign for ending violence against women


President Gjorge Ivanov has voiced support Sunday for the international 16 Days of Activism against Gender­-Based Violence Campaign ‘Orange Your Neighborhood’.

“Woman is the pillar of the family and inseparable part of the political, social, economic and cultural life in Macedonia. We are obliged to respect, advance the right of women to acquire education, live own life, bring up their children with love and dignity in safe environment. Dignified man, spouse and father stands against all forms of discrimination of the woman, against injustice, violence and repression. As President, as well as spouse and father, I wish to invite young, old, men, women, public figures, NGOs to take active part in the campaign which calls for end to violence against women ­ NOW,” Ivanov says in his message.

From 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, the Human Rights Day, the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-­Based Violence Campaign is a time to galvanize action to end violence against women and girls around the world.

The international campaign originated from the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute coordinated by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership in 1991.

This year, the United Nations Secretary­-General’s Campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women invites people across the globe to ‘orange their neighbourhood.
