Robertson: I hope that Macedonia will be accepted as a member of NATO on the summit meetings in London

Yesterday on the tribune in Washington, D.C., former Secretary General of NATO, George Robertson and Damon Wilson, the current executive vice president at the Atlantic Council of the United States expresses support for Macedonia’s admission in NATO on the next summit meetings of the alliance planned for 2014 in London.

-I hope that Macedonia will be accepted as member of NATO. It did everything that is necessary to become a member and it should be part of the NATO family. Macedonia passed by turbulent times and succeeded to even manage a civil war, and bring peace in that part of the world. I have always been a strong supporter of Macedonia’s membership in NATO and I hope that it can overcome the last obstacle, for which flexibility will be needed from both sides, stated Robertson, for the Macedonian radio television.

The former Secretary General of NATO added that he is expecting the accession to be one of the topics on the summit meetings in London. Greece prevented this topic to be even set on the last year’s summit meetings in Chicago. Wilson, who is going to visit Macedonia soon, stated for MRTV that the most important thing in this moment is the engagement of  NATO’S influential countries, such as the United States, Germany, France and Great Britain in resolving the name issue.

-The Council is already agreed and this is a made diplomatic opportunity for the United States, Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy and other countries to involve themselves and work with the Greeks and the Macedonians in order to finally find the resolution for the dispute.
