Sex abuse scandal: Charges against 11 people

The Ministry of Labor and Social Policy has said it will press charges against 11 members of the staff of the Center for Social Work in Skopje for neglect of duty and child neglect.

The charges are in connection to the scandal involving a 13-year old girl, sheltered in the May 25 institution for troubled youth, who had had her baby aborted after being impregnated following years of sexual exploitation outside the institution. The scandal has shed light on numerous shortcomings in the system.

The charges will be filed against all those who have been in charge of acting and taking measures after a case regarding the minor girl had been formed covering the period from 2012 and 2017, the Ministry said in a press release.

Furthermore, inspectors have filed 12 initiatives on disciplinary procedures against qualified personnel in accordance with the Law on Labor. 13 procedures against employees have been also opened for wrongdoing in handling the case in compliance with the Law on Social Protection, stated the press release.
