French director Nicolas Benamou begins filming his new film A Fond on 7 September, on sites across Macedonia, including the ring road around Skopje. Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska Milevska said that the film will introduce Macedonia as an potential location for the film industry.
“We have worked hard in the past years to promote Macedonia as a destination for the industry and we passed numerous legal changes and public campaigns to bring film companies to Macedonia. Once we changed the law on film we opened the doors for producing companies from across the world”, Kanceska Milevska said.
Benamou will lead a crew of 100 people from France and 400 from Macedonia. Transportation Minister Vlado Misajlovski said that due to the ambitious filming program along the Skopje ring road, the public will be kept informed at all times when the road will be closed for traffic.
Filming will continue on the Veles-Gradsko stretch of the Alexander of Macedon highway, and the French company has agreed to finance the reconstruction of the old Veles-Gradsko road, where traffic will be diverted for the duration of the filming.
Producer Marco Cherqui said on Friday that his Chic Films company is a major international producer, working at 250 to 300 films per year. After the completion of A Fond, it’s likely that the company will work on several other major projects in Macedonia.
