Skopje gets first-ever Museum of Illusions (photo)

The Museum of Illusions – the first of its kind in Macedonia – was opened Wednesday. Following months of preparations in an original museum concept, it is located in downtown Skopje in three-level, 550-square meter premises.

The museum is the largest of its kind in the country’s surrounding, Blagica Ilic, museum’s representative, told a news conference on Wednesday. Not only children and youngsters, but also adults are the target group, according to her.

“Some thirty items and over 60 pictures offer an unreal-looking reality, an unusual and never-before-seen solutions. The uniqueness of our museum, compared to those in the region, lies in the fact that it represents a collage of several museum-like activities. Its originality lies here,” stated Ilic.

The Museum of Illusions is expected to attract many tourists. Museums in the Macedonian capital in fact have been attracting people, with up to 200,000 visitors in the past several years and interest is growing day by day.

“Skopje has a lot to offer. The Museum of Illusions will be a piece of the mosaic for tourists coming to the city. The museum will make Skopje recognizable in the Balkans and across Europe,” stated Ljupco Janecski, head of the Agency for Promotion of Tourism.

The Museum of Illusions is open seven days a week from 08:00h until 20:00h.
