Skopje observes liberation day

Skopje’s liberation day November 13 will be observed with series of cultural, humanitarian and sports events on Monday.

Skopje Mayor Petre Silegov will meet representatives of the city’s WWII Veterans Union.

Delegations of the Government, Parliament, Macedonian Army (ARM) and local authorities will lay flowers at the graves and monuments of fallen soldiers.

Traditional blood donor drive of the Skopje Red Cross will also take place.

Book dedicated to Skopje’s architecture will be promoted in the Museum of the City of Skopje, artworks of the 12. international art colony “Skopje 2017″ will be displayed in the lobby of the Macedonian Opera and Ballet, where the annual “November 13″ award will also be presented.

Several sports events have also been held within the observances, including a chess tournament for visually impaired persons, a boxing tournament and an athletics race.

On 13 November 1944, fighters of the 42. and 50. Yugoslav army division and the 16. Macedonian brigade liberated Skopje from the fascists.
