The Duke of Kent attends ceremony to commemorate the WWI centenary in Skopje


His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent attended Monday a ceremony at the Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery in Skopje in honor of the centenary of the First World War.


Deputy Minister of Defense of Macedonia Bekim Maksuti, senior military representatives, the French and Italian Ambassadors to the country, Christian Thimonier and Carlo Romeo respectively, as representatives of countries that took part in the First World War, also attended the ceremony.

Today, near Rabrovo, The Duke of Kent will also receive a historical overview of the Battles of Dojran and Kosturino, with specific reference to a number of British and Irish formations including the 10th Irish Division. The Duke will then lay a wreath at the 10th Irish Division Memorial.

The Duke of Kent has been President of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) since 1970. CWGC is an organisation that commemorates Commonwealth servicemen and women who died in the two world wars, and cares for memorials at 23,000 locations in 154 countries.
