Today is November 20, Universal Children’s Day marked under the motto “Stop violence against children”.

According to UNICEF, every year millions of children worldwide are victims of violence, sexual assault and harsh disciplinary practices, which can inflict both physical harm and psychological damage on children.

In his message on the occasion of Universal Children’s Day, Macedonian Ombudsman stressed that respecting the rights of the children is one of the most important things towards we should aspire, because for the society nothing is more important than creating healthy, educated and tolerant generations ready to face all challenges of life .

-We are conscious that there is a harmonic development of personality within every child, that is why we have to create conditions for them to grow up in healthy family environment, cozy atmosphere full of joy, love and understanding. This is what makes us treat children as equal to us the adults, as active subjects with rights and obligations. We should treat them with all due respect, give them the opportunity to study, aiming towards further human prosperity, says the Ombudsman.

Universal Children’s Day – November 20 has been marked since 1954. It also marks the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which this year celebrates its 24th anniversary.
