Turkey launches campaign to collect aid for flood-affected regions in Macedonia


Teams of 42 people and 24 vehicles with special water-pumping, mud-cleaning equipment have been already working in flood-affected settlements of Skopje region. A campaign for raising funds and aid has been underway in Turkey. Thus far six trucks of urgent aid from Bursa have arrived to Macedonia and such assistance is also expected from Marmara.

Turkey has set up a coordination body for the assistance to Macedonia, made up of representatives of the national Red Crescent, Red Cross, the Turkish International Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and NGO’s volunteers, Turkish Ambassador in Skopje Omur Solendil told a press conference on Monday.

He extended condolences over the flood victims and wished for fast recuperation of the injured ones.

Turkey, as always, will help friendly Macedonia to cope with this disaster, said Solendil, who has already visited the flood-affected settlements in Skopje region.
