VMRO-DPMNE: Macedonia cannot move forward as long as patriots are in jail

Dozens of defenders of the Constitution are in the Sutka prison, while government representatives negotiate with Macedonia’s history and future with the neighbors, opposition VMRO-DPMNE says. It add that Macedonia cannot move forward as long as patriots are in jail.

“The court must begin to share justice, not politics. The court should gather strength and recognize the mistake of detaining artists and intellectuals without any grounds. In the Republic of Macedonia, dozens of people were detained, as part of a mounted case, only because they expressed an opposite attitude and opposed a single policy. Detention is used as a punishment and means of intimidating political opponents rather than a precautionary measure,” the party said.

VMRO-DPMNE adds that institutions, which need to protect the legal system, are violating laws and legal procedures at every step.

“Macedonia will not be part of Europe until the rule of law is restored and the rule of law is not established. Macedonia cannot become a NATO member until the justice system is used as a tool for political persecution. Our common state cannot move forward as long as patriots are in jail, and the presumption of innocence is only an empty phrase”, VMRO-DPMNE says.
