Zaev: Government works on eliminating causes of poverty

Investing in greater guaranteed social aid for the most vulnerable categories of citizens, in early childhood development, easier access to children’s allowance, education allowance for children and increasing the coverage of children in pre-school education are some of the measures that Government has introduced as a way out from cycle of poverty, PM Zoran Zaev said Wednesday on International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

“We have to break the cycle of poverty, which is being transferred from generation to generation among most vulnerable families. Owing to this, additional 11.000 households will receive guaranteed social aid, aside from existing 26.000 households that already have the right to this allowance. Low income families and families with children will get easier access to children’s allowance. We expect the number of children using this right to be over 70.000 in contrast to 3.200 children who now have the right to this allowance, Zaev said in the video address.

According to him, the early childhood development is of great importance and time should be invested in it and greater range of families, as it cannot be reimbursed later during the life.

The most vulnerable categories of children will get the opportunity to get involved in the institutions for care and upbringing and these facilities are boosted by the Government with an investment of EUR 16 million and support from the World Bank. The education allowance as of 2019 will be available to the primary school students and we expect over 60.000 children to use it.

“These are one of our measures as a way out from cycle of poverty. These are investments in human development because every child matters, every person matters. We do not stop here and go further, we are open to cooperation with the initiatives of the communities. Together we can make Macedonia a solidarity country, Zaev said in the video address on the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
