The Government in Tirana proposed a law that would allow the issuing of Albanian citizenship to all ethnic Albanians, going back three generations.

This would apply to ethnic Albanians living in neighboring countries as well as in the large Albanian diaspora across the world. A Government Minister can approve the request for a citizenship if the applicant proves he is Albanian.

Albania will also approve citizenship by birth – a person can become an Albanian citizen by the virtue of being born there, even if neither of the parents is a citizen.
