Macedonia is widely expected to have an ethnic Albanian Prime Minister in the coming years, if the SDSM – DUI coalition holds firm and SDSM keeps the promise it made to DUI. This would mean that a third Balkan country is led by an ethnic Albanian – after Albania and Kosovo who are majority Albanian.

But Montenegro could beat Macedonia to the punch. After the collapse of the pro-Serbian coalition there, on of the coalition partners, URA, is positioning to have its leader Dritan Abazovic as the next Prime Minister. President Milo Djukanovic accepted the offer.

Abazovic is an ethnic Albanian, meaning that it is now possible that Montenegro, not Macedonia, will be the third Balkan country with an Albanian PM.
