While the Zaev Government is promising that it will increase electricity prices for households by just 10 percent, companies, who buy energy on the open market, face a hike of 500 percent.

Republika was shown offers from energy retailers who offered to supply a small company for 23.164 denars per KWh of energy. The same amount of energy used to cost 4.150 denars under the previous fee.

Macedonia is facing a complete collapse of its domestic electricity production, after years of gross corruption and mismanagement in its key REK Bitola coal plant, that was left almost without coal at the start of the winter heating season. While the announced price hike for households may be kept at 10 percent, companies will not be spared and face much hiker price hikes, which will translate into more expensive goods and services for consumers.
