The State Statistics Bureau published its energy report for September. It shows that a very high share of all consumed electricity in Macedonia came from domestic sources – 87.9 percent of the 528.6 thousand megawatt hours of electricity that were used were produced at home.

Domestic electricity production is now greatly reduced, as the REK Bitola plant has minimum reserves of coal, and the hydro potential is used up. Macedonia is forced to pay exorbitant prices to import electricity as the heating season begins in full.
