Following the spread of the African swine fewer in Romania and now Bulgaria, Macedonian authorities say that no cases of the dangerous disease have been reported in Macedonia.

The fewer is not dangerous to humans, but can quickly spread through farms, decimating the pig stocks. Agriculture Minister Trajan Dimkovski said that he is in contact with the hunting association, to coordinate the shooting of wild boars, and to test some of the killed animals, to investigate if they are carriers.

Meanwhile, import of pork products is strictly forbidden. Dimkovski said that special care will be paid to places where tourists go through, because the disease can also spread through discarded food leftovers brought from countries that are affected.
