Opposition leader Hristijan Mickoski called Zoran Zaev out over his promise to deliver anything like the economic boom he promised. Mickoski pointed to the drop in the average salary and the series of tax hikes as evidence of the failure of Zaev’s economic policies.

With an average salary of 24.433 denars in 2019 Q1, we saw a drop of more than five percent compared to December 2018. The rise that was touted then was clearly caused by movement over the expected tax hikes this year and by the year end distribution of bonuses and dividends. Bottom line, the promised 500 EUR are becoming a mission impossible for this lying Government. The increase over their two years is modest compared to the rest of the region and is not keeping pace with the cost of living increases, Mickoski said, adding that it would take a rise of 22 percent in the average salary for Zaev to meet his promise to bring the average to 500 EUR.
