British Ambassador to Macedonia Rachel Gallowey urged the country to stuck to its 2020 – 2026 strategy for radical energy transition and gradual abolition of its coal fired plants.

The call comes after the COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow, and a a time when Macedonia is struggling to keep its main coal plant – REK Bitola – operational, in face of mismanagement of its coal mine and failing equipment.

According to Galloway, the UK will continue to push other countries to close existing coal plants, or abandon plans to open new plants.
