Professor Vanco Uzunov, one of Zoran Zaev’s economics advisers, noted that NATO membership by itself won’t do much for the Macedonian economy.

Salaries won’t rise on their own. It will take a lot of work, uzunov said.

One of the main selling points Zaev is employing to promote the humiliating name change is that it will be good for the economy. But, according to Uzunov, “NATO won’t bring us anything, we have to do it all ourselves, there is no trick card we can play that will make us developed overnight”.

He was speaking at a TV debate with another left wing economics expert, former Finance Minister Nikola Popovski, who mocked Zaev’s promise that average salaries will reach 500 EUR on his watch.
