Albanian President Ilir Meta, along with Macedonian Parliament Speaker, Talat Xhaferi, closely followed Thursday the search and rescue action being carried out in one of the buildings in Durres damaged by the devastating earthquake.

They were also accompanied by Vice Prime Minister Bujar Osmani, DUI leader Ali Ahmeti and lawmakers.

President Meta also met with the specialized emergency forces that came from Macedonia to help address the consequences of this natural disaster.

He expressed his gratitude for their commitment, professionalism and sacrifice in the search and rescue actions, adding that they will never forget their contribution.

This is an important moment of demonstration of solidarity between our two countries and confirmation of the cooperation in emergencies. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to President Pendarovski, Prime Minister Zaev and all the representatives of Macedonia politics who have been with us from the beginning and continue to be with us in dealing with this major disaster and these grave consequences, as you have seen. and you know better than anyone else, said Meta.

DUI leader Ahmeti expressed gratitude to the members of the Macedonian rescue team and expressed hope that there would be no more such tragedies, adding that “these are unpredictable events and we must be prepared”.
