The Mayor of the City of Skopje, Danela Arsovska, attended Wednesday the 5th session of the Board of Directors of the Association of the units of local self -government (ZELS) to discuss the problems faced by Macedonian municipalities due to the current energy crisis. At the meeting, ZELS decided to give the Government seven days to find solutions to their requests related to the burning issues, and if there is no answer, they announced that serious steps will follow.

In February, ZELS requested an urgent meeting with the Government, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski and representatives of departments directly related to dealing with the consequences of the energy crisis to find a solution to the problems of citizens at the local level. Mayors have long pointed to a multiple increase in electricity bills, and in some municipalities by more than 500 percent compared to those before the crisis.

ZELS representatives request a timely reaction from the Government to overcome this situation, especially with the transferred competencies for which the Government should fulfill its obligations, and if that does not happen soon, the functioning of the local level will be put into question.
