The Bulgarian parliament adopted Thursday a declaration for the start of EU accession talks with Macedonia and Albania.

The Declaration states that “the Bulgarian Parliament is committed to EU enlargement and the Stabilization and Association Process of the Republic of North Macedonia and Albania”.

The document emphasizes that European integration “will not be detrimental to the distortion of historical events, documents and artifacts, as well as to the role and attitudes of persons in Bulgarian history”.

With the Declaration, Sofia calls on Skopje to implement effectively, without delay and in good faith, the Treaty on friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation, which was signed by the Prime Ministers of the two countries, Boyko Borisov and Zoran Zaev on August 1, 2017.

The text states that Bulgaria “is committed to the acceptance of the historical truth of a history shared by both states and peoples”.
