Firefighters were able to put under control the major blaze that erupted in the abandoned Treska furniture factory in downtown Skopje. So far no injuries have been reported.

Locals said that on top of the huge pillar of smoke that rose over the city, and scared entire neighborhoods, they could hear strong explosions from the inside of the factory. Plastic materials were also on fire, making the smoke even more dangerous.
Towing trucks had to be used to clear passage for the firefighters in the densely populated area.

Mayor Danela Arsovska came to the site to coordinate relief efforts and the fight against the fire.

Centar Mayor Goran Gerasimovski urged motorists to steer clear from this area of the city, with the important Roosevelt boulevard used by the firefighters.
