Chief Public Prosecutor Ljubomir Joveski said that it is not convenient to have the cases led by the Special Prosecutor’s Office returned to his OJO office, but added that it is doable. This is one of the proposals raised by VMRO-DPMNE in their draft law on state prosecutors which party leader Hristijan Mickoski presented yesterday.

This is opposed to the proposal put forward by Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, who wants the disgraced SPO unit led by Katica Janeva actually promoted into a permanent unit, with the same staff, minus Janeva who Zaev wants to replace with another loyalist – Vilma Ruskoska. Zaev wants all the cases intiiated by the SPO, many of whom are clearly politically motivated or part of the alleged campaign of extortion and racketeering, to be given to this largely intact SPO.

It is not a rational solution, but that doesn’t mean it’s not doable. Still, I believe that most of these cases would still eventually end up with the new specialized unit for high corruption and I don’t see the point of this proposal, other than it would cause chaos, Joveski said about the VMRO-DPMNE proposal, adding that it would lead to delays.

VMRO accepts the creation of a permanent unit of prosecutors, but rejected Ruskoska’s nomination outright.
