As widely expected, the Constitutional Court postponed discussion on the challenge to the 2017 appointment of Talat Xhaferi as Speaker. The court is down to just five judges and is apparently using the case to pressure Xhaferi to speed up the election of new judges in the Parliament.

Even though the court is under strong influence from SDSM and DUI, it began work on the long delayed challenge that could see numerous, highly controversial decisions adopted by the 2016 Parliament struck down – if Xhaferi’s election is deemed invalid.
