We are still in a favorable phase when we have not reached the critical point when an explosion of the numbers of new Covid-19 infections could occur, just as it did in the countries of the region. In our country, the numbers are gradually increasing, but that does not mean that we will not reach the critical point and that at some point we will not need a significant number of health facilities to be able to provide health care to those who will need it, Dr. Zlate Mehmedovic, PhD student in public health told TV Sitel.

Regarding the measures that are currently active in our country, and which have been adopted by the Commission for Infectious Diseases, Dr. Mehmedovic believes that they are not aimed at mitigating the impact of the strong wave that will follow.

No one knows the exact critical point when the numbers of new coronavirus infections will explode. Ahead of us is a serious peak that will seriously strain the health care system. I do not think that is something that can be avoided. We see what is happening in Bulgaria, Serbia or Greece. Everywhere in the neighborhood there is a serious epidemiological critical situation, which will soon move here. The situation here will be even worse than what we see in the neighborhood. If I was asked, I would immediately introduce new measures that would alleviate that initial strong wave. The pandemic should be controlled through preventive measures, not clinical measures. The most important thing is to reduce the number of new infections and thus reduce the strain on the health care system, explained Dr. Mehmedovic.

The unvaccinated will be most affected, he points out.
