A new price hike is in the offing, professor Kostantin Dimitrov warns, as Macedonia is facing a very dry autumn, and any of the lakes we rely on ofr energy are at minimum levels.

The state ordered an end to hydro power production due to low water levels, but other sources are not sufficient on their own. And if we are forced to import electricity, the consumer price will rise, Dimitrov said.

Lakes Prespa, Mavrovo and Debar are at dramatically low levels, and the public outcry forced the ELEM company to greatly reduce production at the hydro plants they supply.
The opposition VMRO-DPMNE party warned that lake Kalimanci, in the east of the country, is also greatly reduced and is at the biological minimum needed to sustain its wildlife.
