Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama reiterated his position that Albania should be allowed to open its EU accession talks alone, independently of Macedonia, should we remain stuck by the Bulgarian veto at the European Council in June.

Regarding the separation of Albania from Macedonia, the answer is positive: 65 percent of Albanian citizens who were polled support this. This will happen on our part if the accession talks are not formally opened in June due to Bulgaria. Until June, we will remain in line with Macedonia, and we believe that both countries should be given the green light in June. If Bulgaria blocks the path in June, we will demand that we are separated. It is impossible for us to face this issue for a long time, Rama said during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
