European foreign ministers continue meeting in Luxembourg, where the possibility of opening EU accession talks for Macedonia is one of the issues at the agenda.

No agreement was made on Monday. France and the Netherlands are seen as the most vocal opponents, while Germany already announced it can make a decision in September at the earliest, beyond the date in summer which Zoran Zaev promised a year ago. A number of central and eastern European countries, on the other hand, push for opening accession talks as soon as possible.

Any decision will have to be confirmed by the heads of states and governments at the European Council meeting that begins on June 20th in Brussels.

Macedonia is tentatively lumped into a group with Albania. Decoupling could help Macedonia open accession talks easier, but is also feared to stir up a nationalist response in Albania.
